Fake or real Life?

By Madhurie Singh, December 17, 2012

I am reading a book called "Tuesdays with Morrie". It's been 2 weeks but still reading this small little book.

Sometimes when you want answers to your questions those which you were pondering over and those at the back of your mind, suddenly the answers appear in the form of a person, a situation, a book, an event or even in a dream.

In my case it was a combination of a person and a book.

I have been dwelling upon philosophical waves since my conscious childhood. Yet the calling was very recent. The questions, doubts, analysis suddenly saw the momentum very recently.

Unlike the modern generation I have listened to my inner self and followed it too.

I have  been guided by the so called sixth sense a lot. Sixth sense was the sense which in the stone age protected humans from the predators and many dangers which were new to them. All these may have become known dangers and now part of out genetic knowledge but back then, they relied on the 6th sense heavily. It is also known as the basic instinct in the human beings.

With time and technology we have progressed and have started relying on the logic more than the instinct. Our dependency on gadgets and tools external to the body will even more increase. Slowly the senses will decline more. Like we have learnt to not bother to listen to our 6th sense or the basic instinct of survival, I am afraid soon we will lose our other senses too.

Our sense of feeling has anyways degraded. Feeling for fellow neighbors and society is quite diminished where we do not care about others as long as it's not happening to us. It's like death, which we never really imagine to happen to us tomorrow.

Slowly our feelings for our family members is also getting eroded by the overdose of materialistic echo. Big cars, big house, branded clothes, parties for the sake of business, corporate demands have taken more precedence over the time and feelings for the family. Family is also a showpiece. Pretension of happy family, showcasing perfect relationships has become our second nature.

We seem to be doing everything in our lives for others. And those others are doing everything for others. In short, no one is doing anything for their own family member or even for their own self.

It's a ball of mirage we have all built around us. The ball of fake behavior, false identity, wrong values, fictitious needs and phony relationships. In short, an imaginary life.

The ball is becoming bigger by the day. The wall of the ball is keeping us away from the reality. Its inner concave walls seem to be focussing from 360 degrees our own faulty thought process. The outside of the ball is the reality which we are far away from.

When these types of questions start to bother you, pick up this book "Tuesdays with Morrie".

It answers your questions without reading the Gita or the Vedas. It seems practical and more apt for simple people with complicated thoughts.

You may find it difficult to implement all but a start anywhere is good.

I believe, " What we know is an iota of  what we Do NOT Know ! " So if we want to know more, we must break open our ball of mirage. Come out of the fake life.  Learn to love the real things around us. Teach our children the importance of honest feelings, family, care and love. The rest will be sorted out.
