Is Gurukula Good For Modern Career
I am sure this is one question that pops up in your mind, whenever you read the praises of Gurukulams.
After all we have been brought up influenced by the western media and western education to believe that only west can teach children how to learn to earn.
I don’t blame any parent. Earlier the gurukulams were not equipped with modern subjects but today, you have options. There are Gurukulams that teach Vedic Education with Modern Curriculum according to a state board or CBSE board. You need to one thing.
Make up your mind first. As a parent you have to have the trust and confidence in Gurukulams, then only you can transfer it to your own child.
🚀 From Gurukula to ISRO: How One Boy Balanced Vedas and Space Science
Can a child trained in ancient Vedic chants go on to build satellites for India’s space mission? Meet Govind Krishnan, a remarkable example of how Vedic education and modern science can beautifully coexist. His journey from a Gurukula in Kerala to ISRO is the kind of real-life story that every Indian parent needs to hear.
🌱 The Decision That Changed Everything
Back in Class 4 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Govind’s life took a turn few would dare choose. His father, a retired Indian Navy officer, enrolled him in Bhramaswam Madham, a traditional Gurukula in Thrissur, where Govind immersed himself in Yajurveda studies. There were no screens, no textbooks, no shortcuts—just the disciplined life of a Vedic student. This kind of Vedic education, often misunderstood as limiting, became his greatest strength.
📿 Discipline First, Then Dreams
Imagine being just 10 years old and memorizing complex chants from dawn to dusk. Govind did exactly that, alongside four other students, without even seeing a printed book.
By Class 8, he returned to regular schooling at Vivekodayam Boys School, but didn’t leave the Gurukula. His days began at 5 am with Vedic rituals, school during the day, and more chants at night—a schedule built entirely on discipline and mental clarity.
His experience proves that child discipline and success are deeply linked. And that raising focused children without screens is possible—even today.
🎯 Academic Excellence, Rooted in Tradition
Govind topped his Class 10 board exams with full A+ grades. Later, he joined Alva’s College, Moodbidri and cracked both JEE Main and JEE Advanced, earning admission to IIST Thiruvananthapuram, India’s premier space science institute.
From a Vedic chanting student to a space scientist from Kerala, his story is a living answer to the question: Can traditional education prepare a child for modern careers? Absolutely yes.
🧘♂️ Still Rooted in the Vedas
Even during engineering studies, Govind continued his Vedic practices daily for an hour, just like some people hit the gym. “Others work on their body, I work on my mind,” he says.
His dedication shows how chanting improves memory, builds mental focus, and offers spiritual grounding even in the fast-paced world of science and tech.
🔭 Gurukula Student, Future Scientist
Selected through ISRO’s Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), Govind will soon join the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thumba. Among his Gurukula peers who chose priesthood, Govind carved a new path—one that honors ancient wisdom in a modern world.Someday, he hopes to teach children the same Vedic lessons that shaped him. Until then, he’ll be helping India explore the skies.
🧡 What We Parents Can Learn
This story isn’t just about becoming an ISRO scientist. It’s about how early values, discipline, and deep-rooted traditions can lay the strongest foundation for our children.
If you’re wondering how to balance your child’s screen time with focus and clarity, or whether Vedic parenting has a place in today’s world—Govind’s life says YES.
As parents, we often fear ancient paths will block modern dreams. But the truth is, spirituality and science in India have always walked hand-in-hand. You don’t have to choose between tradition and technology. With the right mindset, your child can master both.
