By Madhurie Singh, April 03, 2012

When we see Karishma Kapoor endorsing Kellogg’s Chocos for her child in the television advertisement, many would assume that Choco’s Nahi Diya to I am depriving my children of a healthy and nutritious breakfast.

I find it an easy breakfast where milk is also part of the daily regime.

Its good as its dry, easy to serve and claims great nutrition for your loved ones.

Breakfast has to be the most nutritious we all have read but how many have you checked the nutritional content of the expensive chocos cereal.

If you notice the brand Kellogg very cleverly, increases the nutritional value of its 30gm Chocos is actually along with 120ml skim milk.

Actually if you really measure the amount of milk you pour in a bowl is too less compared to the claim.

All the protein that your child is getting is from MILK and only one fifth from the cereal. 🙁 Even the Calcium in it is got half from the milk !

And most surprising is the fact that assuming that this cereal of milk and chocos will give your child the needed energy to break the fast and kick-start the active routine. Hopefully the snacks and lunch in the lunch boxes are home cooked or really high calorie and high protein. Remember a good high calorie breakfast muct be 300-400 calories for your child (not you :))

Imagine a chocolate related cereal doing so poorly in terms of nutrition, all others must be pathetically low compared to the whopping Rs 210/ 700gm they cost you.

Which means 700/30gm =  Rs 23.3 is just the cereal you are paying for every morning which is not even beating the inflationary needs of the diet now-a-days!

And there are many of you who send plain chocos in the lunch boxes !!!!

Ok now lets start by making it more valuable meal of the day for your baby.

Add dry fruits if they eat in the milk or just force them to chew while running for the bus!

Give a good old banana/ strawberries a quick slicing and make the cereal healthy in the real meaning.

Remember you need to add calories in the breakfast for the children. If you have a slightly plumpy kid, then may be kellogg’s chocos is just fine.
