Best Protein Health Drink for Kids - Horlicks, Complan, Bournvita?
By Madhurie Singh, October 28, 2009
I have written a long article with lot of research about best massage oil for newborns and toddlers. Do read it and comment as I did a lot of hard work in researching various research papers to find the proof of the benefits of massage oils in several medical journals. You may want to read this article also where I write about the real food items that will actually help in growth of height and body of your darling baby. How To Growth Strength & Height of Your Children?
Best Protein Health Drink for Our Kids will be a fight that not just the brands, but the mother in us will have to go on with.
Ever wondered, which is the best protein health drink (not protein powders) to buy for your kids
Well, for a long time I trusted the most known brands and my favorite was Horlicks. I personally love it’s taste. Last Dec 2008, I took a weight loss challenge organized in my gymnasium “Solaris”. Of course I went for the whey protein powder, lost 8 kg in 3 months, was in the top 10 amongst all the contestants in Pune. But the main challenge came when I had to maintain the protein intake. I did not want to take the expensive protein powders, but wanted a lighter version of the milk based health drink. So I thought of checking out if I could drink the same thing that I was giving to my kids. That is “Horlicks”.
A good friend mentioned that the best brand was Bournvita based on the maximum protein content displayed on the package, which he said was around 40% RDA (recommended daily allowance) .
I went and bought Bournvita, trusting my friend. But my ever so data and research hungry brain had to feed on the claims made by Bournvita. I have this strange eye for figures and facts, where I know that something is not right, even when I have no connection to the subject at all! Somehow, the figures did not match the claims made by Bournvita about its recommended RDA. I found it very strange that a company could sell milk protein, so cheap when it was costing not less than Rs3000/- 1000gm of whey protein. I got suspicious and got all brands one by one. So we all had a feast on Hotlinks, Bournvita, Boost, Complan for months together, where even my hubby and I got in the habit of eating (not drinking) these powders 😀 !!!!!
Taste wise, I still love Hotlinks. 🙂 Malt is my Halt! (Malting always enhances the taste along with the nutrition of any cereal.)
But when I did a detailed comparative analysis of all the brands, I felt like knocking my head on the walls for having blindly drinking and making my babies drink what I assumed was one of the most trusted health drink. The worst brand which is cheating all of us is Bournvita. !!!
The Best and most trusted brands is COMPLAN. I thank my stars that I did this analysis to pick the gem out of the scum. Second Brand that I trust is Hotlinks. Third Brand is none. Dabur is not compared here as the ingredients are natural and does not fall under the same category as other drinks.
Yesterday, my hubby reminded me about posting my research on the health drinks after reading an article in Times of India about the Supreme Court ruling against companies that were advertising TALL claims which were meant to lure uninformed customers. So here is my research and my honest review on health drinks for kids in India. The worst brand in terms of the extreme misleading claim award goes BOURNVITA. 🙁 The best brand and most authentic brand with all true claims award goes to COMPLAN 🙂 If you are still interested, here are the false claims and their post mortem done by my logical and analytical research. The ridiculous claims of Bournvita: They claim that their drink has 40% RDA (recommended dietary allowance) of Protein for kids.
The Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for protein, in grams, are:
Infants 0 to 6 months = 13gm;
Infants 6 to 12 months = 14gm;
Children 1 to 3 years = 16gm;
Children 4 to 6 years = 24gm;
Children 7 to 10 years = 28gm;
Claim by Bournvita: Provides 40% RDA of Protein for children 4 to 6 years = 9.6 gm So Ideally, one drink of Bournvita of approx. 10 gm powder should provide 9.6gm protein.
But. Post Mortem Report of Bournvita : What they are very cheekily mentioning under the grabs of tiny stars and other symbols are these startling facts: The 40% RDA of protein is possible only when the Bournvita 10 gm powders is added into 240ml whole cow milk. As if they are providing the milk along with the powder! (Or are they willing to gift a cow to each Bournvita customer!). So, in effect, the protein content of whole milk from cow is actually part of their claim! (By the way this misleading tactic is used by Kellogg’s cereals too). Also Bournvita confuses the printed figures on the pack with the fact by providing a tiny reference star next to 40% RDA, that this 40% RDA of protein is possible only with two drinks in one day!
So what our kids get actually in one drink of Bournvita provided we use whole cow milk = 4.8gm protein. But wait, out of this 4.8gm the contribution of Bournvita is only 0.7gm protein!!! The rest 4.1 gm is from our darling cow’s milk :). So we are spending Rs 7.96/- to get 0.7gm protein from a powerful trusted brand called Bournvita?
I might as well just give plain milk which has minimum 6gm protein Why they can not be sued? Because they are not hiding these facts but manipulating the visibility of these numbers on the pack.
What they should be doing? Simply mention how much is the protein content in 2 teaspoons of Bournvita, like other brands (check Complan)?
The Brand that I trust is COMPLAN.
Why? Because they have not manipulated any fact and figure on the pack. They claim that their product when provides as much protein as one glass of skim milk does is absolutely true. A skim milk contains approx. 5-6 gm protein.
The other brands that can be trusted are Horlicks and Junior Horlicks. Boost is in the category of Bournvita :(. (And we have Sachin Tendulkar endorsing it !!!! I wish he reads this post for his reputation).
I am providing to you, two tables right below for any one interested in more numbers which I am sure will open your eyes if you don’t get bogged down by my colourful charts. 🙂
In This Chart I have standardized the quantity of powder to 33gm = 2 heap full of spoon of drink powder. Check the protein and calcium content. Also compare the cost per drink. Check the protein and calcium content.
Bournvita is trying tricks in using the factor which customer might use to buy their product. How long a product will last is an important factor when we buy anything. Bournvita has reduced the per drink quantity to only 10gm. So obviously, at a glance it seems the best brand to provide 50 drinks as compared to other brands like Complan which suggest 33gm per drink, which lasts for 15 drinks only !!!!
Hats off to the Bournvita Product Marketing guys… you know how to strip our kids off their healthy nutrients :(!! `
In this second chart here I have mentioned figures as stated and claimed on each pack. Each brand has a different quantity that they suggest to be mixed in milk. This is one very good way to confuse customers who cannot calculate instantly which brand has best protein or other nutrient while shopping.

A lot of people are copying this article and claiming as their own. 🙂 🙁 But its ok with me. Awareness is more important than chasing people who are copy and post my articles.

Great Blog!!
I would request to read this report published by consumer Affairs on its website. www.consumeraffairs.nic.in/sites/default/files/file-uploads/ctocpas/Health_Drink.pdf they have tested samples at NABL and one surprise is no product have DHA. The report is not on printed data but on actual sample, almost all brands have questioned on method of calculation but since all brands were tested using similar approach, the best will be best. Their ranking : 1. Complan (NutiGrow) 2. Horlicks
Thank you for the information. I will check the link.
Thanx a lot. Your writing will help to many of us who have baby and have a little knoledge about health drink.
Good one, Complan and Bournvita are good at there place but what about healthy milk drinks like amul pro are they more effective as compared to bournvita and complan..?
Hi admin, i must say you have very interesting content here. Your website should go viral. You need initial traffic boost only. How to get it? Search for: Mertiso's tips go viral
... But any good news from Horlicks?
thank you for beautiful analysis. which is best for age 40 plus ?

My daughter is 3'.5y years older, her weight is 12 kg what kind of health drinks can give to her
She is fine. No need to give any health drink. Give one kaju, almonds and akhroat every day
all this are boolshit health drink
it is true I feel the different between complan and bournvita etc... it gives best results
When Nutrilite kids drink and complan is compared, which one is value for money. Can u tel us, pls
very useful. thank you so much
Mam can you compare also complan nutri gro vs pediasure. Which will be best for 4 year old toddler?
There is a health drink by Amway Nutrilite. Compare that as well.
Great article !! You should do another round now (in 2015) I want to know where does Amul PRO fit ? (I don't know whether it was available in 2009)
Pinaki my article is dated 2009. The article you have sent has no date. If there are changes in any quantity then the date factor is v imp to be verified.
How do you review this article (link below) please, as a few things are in direct contradiction. http://consumeraffairs.nic.in/consumer/writereaddata/Health_Drink.pdf
Hi.pl tell about pediasure too
Another very important point to note with Bournvita is the sugar content - 23 gmm That is way too much. When you say one drink, what is the liquid content? 200 ml whole cow milk/water? And if plain milk has 6 gm of protein, how does adding 33 gm of bournvita make the protein content 4.8gm. I am a little confused with this figure.
Good
My daughter is 9yrs old . Am worried for her height. she is jus 113 cm . Her weight seems to be normal ie 23kg . I had taken her to a normal MBBS doctor who had given me Calcium supplement syrup. In spite of it am looking forward for some tips which would help my daughter to gain height. Can you suggest
[…] I did this article in 2009 on health drink comparison and have been doing reviews since then to be shocked each time by claims on the ads. Read the comparison here. […]
I think Protinex Health Drink is Good One!
Lets be more objective and go beyond our feelings. :) Lets prove it
did you check pedisure.
there is no brand as pedisure. If you think its Pediasure, there is a review already. Google madhuriesingh and pediasure.
That could be true. But the best is amul pro as it has proteins and vitamins and it did not claim anything and friends we should not forget that amul is an Indian brand and we should prefer Indian brands among foreign brands.
Lets be concerned about the health of the children than nationalities. This blog will review all brands irrespective of human made boundaries. :)
so how much did complan pay you to come up with this?
Can u ask them to pls.
you dint compare milo?

Can I give my 6 months old girl complan milk? She's slim and don't eat very well, she has no weight, I want her to gain weight. Pls help
I think not, but check with doctor. Gaining weight is not important, being active is more important. I am sure you don't want her fatty cells to grow big now that entire life she has to struggle to shed the fat.
I give all these drinks to my kids only for flavour. I know that they are not very nutritious.
Sonal, I do not even give anything for flavor as they all contain, preservatives that get fully absorbed when drunk empty stomach.
Hi Madhur, First of all let me thank you for a great job done! Wondering whether you could add Pediasure to the comparison. Also we all are aware that India does not have very strong FDA rules. What is the guarantee that whatever is printed on the label actually exists? Is there any possibility that you can test the same? Regards, Subhra.
I have a limited access and resources to the material based on which I can review. Since I do not have any access to labs, as of now, it the label on the packs that will be compared and analysed. Beyond this is beyond my current scope. Pediasure is reviewed already. Just google my name and pediasure togather.
Dear madhuri, thanks a ton. I was always worried about this. U have me a great solution. Don't know how to thank u.
your reply is also not objective and very subjective. Not much of any use. there is an inherent bias in your comment and a feeling of superiority complex. India has a much better solutions than all these overrated health drinks.
Every one is entitled to express their views. Your comment too has no base only accusation. When you want to point out something , be specific, so that there is chances of improvement. Generalization can never help anyone. Also looks like you are more biased as you have some drink in mind that is not mentioned here. Instead of complaining, its always better to contribute to the society by writing about the product that is missing here.
Hi Madhurie, it's really helpful article. Thanks for sharing it. My boy is 2.5yrs old & its weight is 12 kgs. so for increasing his weight & gaining more proteins I am using PediaSure. but in above article you didn't mention about Pediasure comparison. Please advise me whether Pediasure is good in proteins gaining. Thanks, Ragini
Ragini, google my name and pediasure, you get that review of pediasure
Is pediasure is good for kids. My son was 7yr old but his weight is 16kg so what are you recommend. Which health will work
Hi, I appreciate your efforts. Very useful suggestions from your side. Could you help parents by publishing useful information on babynamescube.com ?
What kind of information?
Your contribution is unparalleled, I can not thank you enough.
Hi Madhuri, Thank You so very much for all your inputs! I'll be very much appreciated, if you can guide me as to what's that I give my 2 year old daughter as a food supplement. I've completed giving her all 4 stages of lactogen (1,2,3,4). Now my confusion is what do I give her as a suppllement now that she's completed 2 years. Awaiting your response! Thanks indeed!!
Hey Roland, I think a doctor will do a better job. But as a mom I can tell you complan is best.
Hi Madhurie singh..i was very much impressed with your article it is an eye opener for those who wanted to know about these health drinks...i have a 2yr old son..i usually maintain a healthy diet but sometimes he doesn't have his meals properly and he is short in height compared to others of his age group but correct in weight ....so is it necessary to give him pediasure once in a week in order to improve his height
Hi Vishista, No need to start on pediasure. Best would be to visit an endocrinologist if his height is really below average. I did and now my son is grown taller by 4 inches.
prachi chandekar... hello.. am Dr. jyoti.. as u said ur son have severe miilk allergy, thn can you tell me abt hw his daily calcium requirement is fullfilled. ? as you said he is tallest in his class.. tht could be heriditory also.. what abt his bone health. 90%of calcium is stored in our bones and 1%in our blood. if thr is deficiency of calcium in blood, it starts taking calcium frm our bone.. hence causing wearing of our bones..dont you think thr is a nutritional gap.
I agree that the moment there is deficiency in the calcium in the blood it starts to suck out from our bones! Also that is one reason why women who do not get enough calcium in their food, start to gain weight too :)
hi, am a doctor by proffession.. hey madhuri. hv you ever heard about PDCAAS by WHO... according to tht humanbody needs 1gmprotien/ 1kg of body wt on an average per day, kids need 1-1.5gm /kg , women needs 1-1.5/kg, atheletes need 1.5-2gm/kg. our body is made up of 20%protien. each cell is made up of proteins-amino acids, many of these cells multiply and form organs, muscls ,bones etc... 9 essensial amino acids needed for growth of a human body. and none of these are present in any of the drinks mentioned above... so wht is ur comment.?
Totally agree with you. Unfortunately, we are consumers and consume what is in the market. The companies are out there to make profits along with fulfilling our wants. These supplements are basically aimed at the parents who think by adding these expensive supplements they can provide good health to their children. I think its more a duty of the doctors to advise these parents about the requirements and the sources and not these companies. We can not blame any brand for not adding all the amino acids as this is a daily milk based protein health supplement and not a treatment drug for any malnutrition. The difference between vitamin pills and these health supplements is vast and can never be comparable. I would prefer to give everything with open mind and awareness ensuring what food or brand contains what nutrition. Companies and brands will continue to woo us via TV ads and mall displays. But its the duty of the parents to read the ingredients and buy only what is needed. Most of the time we are emotionally made to feel bad or inferior if we do not buy a brand that claims smart mothers buy their products.

Thanks
Hi Prachi, my Son also has milk allergy and I am struggling trying to give him the best. He is also a slow eater and I was hoping to find a drink that will provide him the best nutrition supplement. Would be grateful if you can share some of your ideas.
Can I give my 1yr old child complan. How much I can give .
Honestly you should not if your child is eating properly or and drinking milk without any fuss. These are supplements to help parents make their children drink milk.
Hello, may I ask something? if height is depends upon genes of their parents then how complain says that drink and be taller?
Why is Pediasure not in comparison? You would see that it meets 100% of RDA recommendation
done, u were right. :)
thanks! will correct it.
hi..really impressed by reading your article and your work..thanks so much for the information. I have a 14 months old boy child and his weight is less for his age (8 kgs).. can you please suggest me what should i do?
Hi Trupti, he is fine!
Thanks for your effort to bring the facts out, just a small observation from reading through, the paragraph where you said ""So what our kids get actually in one drink of Bournvita provided we use whole cow milk = 4.8gm protein. But wait, out of this 4.8gm the contribution of Horlicks is only 0.7gm protein !!! The rest 4.1 gm is from our darling cow’s milk :) " Don't you think it should have been Bournvita instead of Horlicks?, it might have been overlooked but it eventually confuses the reader spoiling the otherwise fantastic analysis, hope you will correct it!!
So far, i've only found the Amway Nutrilite brand of Kids range in India to be forthright about the ingredients and their source in their products. I've used them since a few years and extremely satisfied.
Me Being a Nutritionist and my husband a real health and wellness enthusiast, realize that problem with today's diet (even if one is basing their family's diet to a good combo as per the WHO food pyramid) is that one can never be sure whats the source of the food they are consuming. Bad soil management (devoid of the nutrients), pesticide & chemical usage, shallow understanding of what actually organic food means (people claim their produce is organic when it takes approx 15 yrs of NO pesticide usage on their soil to call it somewhat organic...and that only 1 of the requirements!!) leaves consumers no reliable option. Hence i rely on organic, natural food supplements for my family to make sure that the nutrition gap does not widen over the years, and lead to lifestyle diseases which India is unfortunately leading in :( Priyanka. 8108125257
@digambar nothing special at all. No milk is sufficient for good health. A COMPLETE No milk diet is very difficult to follow unless you have this allergy. Milk is in 95% of all available food @admed. Yes his blood type is O. But it is the same for the rest of the family. He is the only one with the allergy.
welcome
Thanks Prajakta
i think ur son have O (+ve or -ve) blood type, that is why milk didnt suits for his health.
Hi Prachi, Can you please share how do you manged such good nutrition for your son? It will be helpful for other parents as well.
I also found some more point for this complan, Horlicks, bournvita comparison. See here : http://www.healthy-drinks.net/does-complan-horlicks-bournvita-really-increases-your-height/
all of your above explain about nutrition content in particular product has been examined on the basis of content label stick on product or on basis of laboratory tested report. In Dec 2012 Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)issued show cause notice to 19 companies included complan, Horlicks which your are recommending here, for making false health claims on the labels of their products with out any scientific approved data that misguiding to people.
Thank you for bringing this to my notice. I will definitely look into it. Honestly, for a layman like me, we have to believe that atleast the FDA, WHO do their job effectively as there is no other source for us to do the tests on the ingredients. And FYI I am not recommending Horlicks , Yes I do recommend Complan but only based on the label that ideally is approved by FDA / WHO or FSSAI. I wonder when a company prints a label is there no process of first getting them approved by FSSAI? If not then how else can we know about the approved or not approved content? But I will surely be more careful to check event the FDA and WHO to check if FSSAI is doing its work or not. :)
you should know first what milk you are drinking...and if you beleive it's cow milk...look at the streets of India...cattles eat garbaze...
In India i don't beleive any powder is good, what quality of grains they would be using to prepare it...god knows...but I can recommend Herbal Life products for adults and Kids.
Hi!!! Amazing and detailed review!! Do you have any idea about Venky's Fit Kid? Quite a lot of kids at the pool where my daughter swims are being asked to use it.
Hi Pallavi, no I am not really aware of contents of Venky's Fit Kid. If you have the pack, can u send me the images of the labels, claims and all sides snaps.
Truely believe, cow's milk may not be the need at all for human body
Prachi, it's truly amazing and admirable how you've managed so well all these years and so positively! Hats off to you... really proud of you! :)
Wonderful Prachi Chandekar Solomon You must share it for the benefit of other parents
I have a son with such strong milk allergy that he reacts stringly to even a single drop. I have to actively keep him away from anything that could be having even 1 ml milk . Thats another story on how this is achieved. But after all this my son is tallest in his age group. Also very healthy and strong. I dont need supplements. All I do is take pains to ensure that there is no milk whatsoever. And it works. I have proof..
Madhurie Singh please try to do that also
Malky Hmm I have not reviewed Ovaltine
whats about ovaltine?
Bourvita is best for the taste.

You are a Mom Extraordinaire! Thanks for saving us so much of hard work! I was wondering if you'll add "Pediasure" to your analysis, if I send you a snapshot of its ingredients, as you mention in one of the comments below? My child is just 2, & Pediasure is so costly!
Keep up the good work.

Thanks :)
I m impressed.

How do you compare Protinex junior or Protinex with Complan. My son is 9 years old and is going for cricket coaching, Karate...i want to ensure that he has the right food suplement and so curious about Protinex Junior and Complan. He also takes 5 soaked & peeled almonds daily and 1-2 walnuts early in the morning. He is fussy about fruits and vegetables and not so regular (We are vegetarians), so please advice on the above 2 supplement drinks. I am sure i wiil stop Boost immediately which we have been giving him after reading your article.
Hi, Kindly post your questions or discussions on http://www.schoolkhojo.com/index.php?/user/forum/forumreviewtopics thanks
Check the latest comparison on Protinex VS Complan.
Good thing that you changed something after reading my article. Keep it up. Almonds must be not less than 10 in number. Walnuts are great. Nothing can supplement vegetables and fruits. Try small quantity initially may be mixed in icecream, chilled curds. Protnix review will be soon here.
but the real fact is we ont need any of of horlicks or complan or bournevita or protinex or boost. One can only be a big fool to believe that Sachin or Kapil ever used boost for their energy needs.

Just remember Pediasure not to be mistaken as regular drink.
I have done a review on Pediasure and of course complan with other drink supplements. Google them with my name. Now even I have to google if I want to read my own articles :).
Hi Madhurie, Thanks for such a nice blog and facts....would be appreciate if you can provide us your view on Pediasure vs. Complan too.
thanks for opening my eyes and tell something about protinex.
Michael Storey ok sure.
It's not available in shops in India at the moment, however the website has links to ways that you can purchase NutriPlan for it to be shipped from the UK
Thanks Michael. I will have to find where in India this product Nutriplan is available.
This article was really enlightening, thank you. It would be great if you could visit nutri-plan.com to see what you think. Similar nutritional values to complan but cheaper.
Thanks
thanks a lot for the information, lot of parents will benifit from your facts about health drinks specially for kids.
Borunvita is the the tastiest :) .. But like the old saying goes everything healthy is boring and everything tasty is unhealthy :)
Yes sure. Transfat is definitely something I worry about too.
Nice... Too Bad Complan wasn't tastiest drink and Bourvita was, when I was a kid. Uggghh how I hated Complan... worse than whole milk lol?
Madhurie, you have done a great job of comparison and provided very useful information which every parent using these brands should have. May I suggest that when you do your comparison with Pediasure, you include the trans-fats content too? It would be extremely relevant because these products are given to infants, too.
But just to remember easily, 1 gm of protein for 1 kg is good idea. So if a child is 10 kg then 10 gms of protein. A trick here is that 10 gm of paneer does not entirely contains 10 gm protein. It is made of water, fat and other nutrients along woth protein. But why fret? Just give a balanced diet. Do not go by calculator :), you will do good.
Yes ! its little more than 1.10gm per Kg for kids aged 1-3 years.
Madhurie Singh hi madhu, do u know how much protein do children need per day, does it depends upon their weight?
great information on health drinks.
:) Thnaks
hi guys you should read this blog.just shows how we make fool of ourselves daily in the morning.
hi guys you should read this blog.just shows how we make fool of ourselves daily in the morning.
Pediasure is not for you unless your kid is not able to digest milk or wheat. Horlicks is good drink. Nutrilite I have not reviewed.
Can you help me in making a decision between pediasure, horlicks and nutrilite kids drink. Thanks
Thanks :)
Nice work :)
Thank you :)

A friend recommended I take complan and so I started to google and reached your awesome post!! thanks for the wonderful information

Dear Madhuri, Appreciate your research and it really has been helpful . My son is into sports and his diet has always been a worry for me as we r vegeterians. He is ten yrs old and I am happy as I have shifted to complan since a year as My doctor suggested for my kid.your article helped me and relieved me as i was giving him the best. I give him twice a day add i tea spoon of sugar in cold milk . I guess that is suffiecient.Recently just a week ago i saw advt on TV about Complan with whey for kids, can you breif on that if you have time. Thanks madhuri and all the best
Good Work! Thanks for sharing :)
Saw a brand called protinex Junior in the chemist today. I rem my grandpa taking protinex, but they tell me this is a new brand for children called junior protinex. Could you provide a detailed review with comparison to pediasure or kidspro?
Sure but today I will be completing an article on Complan Memory which is long due.
hi Madhurie, Great thanks .....to you on behalf of every mom. This is an excellent research and useful to every mom who always wants to give a good health drink to her kid. I felt very happy after seeing this reasearch as i am giving my kid COMPLAN only. But i am thinking of pediasure and nutrilite ,thinking they have more nutrients than complan. It will helpful if you have any thing to share with these health drinks also as well even i can share my research on these things in my next post. Sirisha.
Yes I can see many other brands that are better but not getting time to write due to school workshops and seminar. Also main factor is cost per drink which matters, hence pediasure and nutrilite do not really fall under same consumer segment. They are high end products and must be compared with protien shakes and like. Also most welcome to share ur research here.
my son loves to drink milk wid turmeric daily ....any idea about the same................
Hi, It's a very good article. Only question is that what about the DHA? it's available only in bournvita. what are other sources of DHA? Thanks
well that's true. DHA is best in fishes like mackerel, tuna, chicken, egg, Masoor daal.
i'll be waiting for your pediasure analysis. hav been iving this for a long time to my son. hope i made a right choice.
Great research!! Thanks for sharing with us..Being mother i was worried too much if i should give any of these drinks...always had doubts in mind...tried horlicks and complain But now after seeing ur research data, i'm sure enough what i'm giving to my kid

GR8 great work.......I am fan of yours... I am giving nutilite kids cholclate drink to my kid..... Nutrilite claims that they prepare drinks from natural resources and protien Digesstibility (PDCAAS) is a global standard established by WHO with a score of 1.0 representing the highest possible score for a quality protien source. As per them the drink contains nutritonal values as suggested by WHO...need your views pls
Excellent work. I am glad you are putting in the effort to this kind of fact finding. Protein in take is always as per body weight of a person according to the body mass index. Good work....
Thanks Dev. It feel gr8 that quite a few read abt this article, and the chart seems to be on google image too for protein chart.

Hey Madhurie, This article was too good.. Hats off to you... I am giving my daughter "Pediasure" .Do you have any feedback on this drink? have you ever tried this out? regards, Nithya
hi madhurie I fully agree with you. COMPLAN is the best. Honestly speaking, I havenot done any research on the nutritional facts and figures of these milk proteins but my uncle (now his age is 50 plus) who is a doctor used to drink Complan when he was doing MBBS. I have been drinking Complan since my childhood (My age is 32).Even during my academics days when I was in hostel, I used to drink Complan during exams (Drinking Complan really sharps the brain, I believe so) and now my son who is 4yrs, I also give him only complan but in different flavours. All other brands like boost n bournvita I havenot tried. Horlicks I like due to taste. BUT COMPLAN IS THE KING

Hi Madhurie, I am a new member and i truly appreciate your efforts in making all this information available to parents like me. I also wanted to know whether you had done any analysis on Protinex. I use a both protinex and complan for my kid. Let me know, Thanks, A
Hi A, I a so thankful to your query. I had earlier been a fan of protinex biscuits and later on the protein powder. It's actually the best health drink in terms of protein content. It has 9.6 gm per drink (30gm). That's amazing as compared to the measly 2-3 gm in other drink powders. But it's quite expensive. If protinex is mixed with milk (6gm protein), the total protein content becomes 15.6 gm which is very high and kids do not need this much in one meal ! Kids need approximately 24gm protein daily. Also the calcium content is 400 gm, which is great! The cost id Rs 850/- 400gm !!! So it makes per drink worth Rs70/- !!!!! Now how many can afford that! . On the other hand, one could reduce the quantity per drink to 10gm only and that will be close to Rs21.25/ drink to give 3.2gm protein per drink ! (cost of milk not accounted).
