CBSE Class 10 Results 2014

Written By Madhurie Singh Last Modified Date: May 22, 2014

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Examination) Class 10 result was declared on 20th May 2014.

CBSE has changed the pattern of evaluation this year.

From 2014, the weightage of class 10 board exam will be reduced to only 40% !

What will be the impact?

Lower stress and hence lower suicide rate

More focus on understanding the concepts, principals and fundamentals rather than rote learning

No longer the future of all the students will be dependent on just one exam

The rest of the 60%  marks are gathered from the continuous assessment throughout the year known as Formative and Summative Assessment.

Only Summative Assessment is based on exam marks, with SA1 having been completed under first term,

and the final board exam or internal school exam as SA2.

Final results for Class 10 will be based 60 per cent on Summative Assessment (SA1 and SA2) and 40 per cent on Formative Assessment.

Final Result of Class 10 =  20% of SA1 (Internal Exams) + 40% of SA2 (Board Exam or School Approved Exam) + 40% of Formative Exam

Formative assessment is a tool used by the teacher to continuously monitor students’ progress in a non-threatening and supportive environment. If used effectively it can improve student performance tremendously while raising the self esteem of the child and reducing the work load of the teacher.

This process ensures that there is difference in the pace each student learns but that factor should not become a factor for failure or lagging behind. It enables students to learn, question and clarify their concepts at their own pace. Teachers can actually make a wonderful system of assessing and grouping students and then catering to their needs. The ultimate aim of this type of assessment is that the student will not be burdened and hence forced to mug up lessons without understanding the fundamentals.

Many schools are conducting Formative Assessments through quizzes, conversations, interviews, oral testing, visual testing, projects, practicals and assignments.

Summative Assessment

The Summative assessment is the terminal assessment of performance at the end of instruction. Under the end term Summative assessment, the students are tested internally based on the following criteria:-

a) Curriculum and Syllabus for Classes IX will be the same as circulated by the Board earlier.

b) The Summative Assessment will be in the form of a pen-paper test conducted by the schools themselves. It will be conducted at the end of each term.

c) In order to ensure standardization for uniformity, the Question Banks in different subjects to generate question papers are forwarded by the Board to schools in March.

d) In order to cater to difference in the pace of responding, the Schools will give flexible timing to the students during end term Summative Assessment.

e) Evaluation of answer scripts is done by the school Teachers themselves on the basis of the Marking Scheme provided by the Board.

f) There is random verification of the assessments procedures carried on by schools by the Board officials/nominees appointed by the Board to ensure the school is not lenient to their own students.

Let’s hope the schools will remain just and ensure fair assessment as most students have opted and will opt for school exam instead of board exam.

Suddenly there is rise in the  perfect 10 CGPA (cumulative grade point average) as all students getting between 91 to 100 will be Grade A+ and the average of all the subjects will obviously be A+  ie perfect 10 !

CBSE in India is trying to reduce the burden off the Indian students but the CBSE students in Dubai killed himself due to rote system expected by the board exam.
